Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A senior political figure commented the attack made him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
