The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in employing video review systems.
Replay systems will make its debut at Wimbledon this year.
Competitors will gain the option to contest particular decisions made by the official, mirroring the practice currently in use at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be operational on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This move comes just a season following the All England Club implemented ELC, which terminated the longstanding role of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Competitors cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can request the official to review other situations, such as:
- If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a shot touched an rival's racket or body during play.
- Possible interference end of a rally.
Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the number of reviews a player can ask for.
Practical Application
An illustrative example occurred in a recent tournament recently, where a top player used the video challenge against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his opponent had "played the rules effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and determined Draper was responsible for hindrance, awarding the point to his opponent.
Growing Trend
This technology are not exclusive to major tournaments. It was adopted at the American major for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews in place at every one of its events.
Other Changes
A further change at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where spectators have occasionally been uncertain whether a ball was out or in.
Finally, with precisely 100 days to go until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have also revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
